Amritsar is a delectable blend of tradition, food, history and culture. It was founded the fourth Sikh guru, Ram Das, in 1577. - Wagah Border Crossing : The grand trunk road marks the dividing line between Pakistan and India.
- Hall Bazaar : This is the busiest shopping centre in Amritsar. It is a one-stop shopping destination for electronics, books, handicrafts, home décor and clothing. Locals and tourists visit the bazaar woollen items, carpets, blankets and shawls; and everything from wooden bangles to fine silver jewellery.
- Golden Temple : It is the holiest shrine of the Sikh religion. This architectural marvel is known to Sikhs as Harmandir Sahib. The temple sits on a rectangular platform, surrounded by Amrit Sarovar
- Jallianwala Bagh : This is the place that marks a bloody day in the history of Indian independence - April 13, 1919. Here hundreds of innocent Indians were killed by British troops on the order of General Dyer. A well in which people jumped to escape the gunfire stands as a sobering reminder of the horrific event. Bullet holes on the wall within the Jallianwala Bagh have also been marked for tourists to observe.
- Maharaja Ranjit Singh Museum : Earlier it was the Summer Palace of Maharaja Ranjit Singh. Today the palace has been transformed into a museum and holds an exciting range of arms, armour, paintings, old coins, and manuscripts.
- Central Sikh Museum : The particular museum preserves the gruesome history of the Sikhs’ martyrdom by the Mughals, the British, and Operation Bluestar.
- Ram Tirath : Associated with the period of Ramayana, the Tirath is about 11 km west of Amritsar. It is believed that Lord Ram and Sita’s twins, Luv and Kush were born here. Also, Sage Valmiki is believed to have scripted the epic Ramayana at Ram Tirath.
Akal Takht, Kesar Da Dhaba, and Gobindgarh Fort are also essential sightseeing places in Amritsar that should not be missed.
