Bhimbetka is derived from the word ‘Bhimbaithka’ that means ‘The sitting place of Bhima’, from Mahabharata. Out of 760 Rock Shelters, 500 are adorned with stunning paintings. The unique part of visiting the cave is the painting of an enormous red bison attacking a man is visible only when the sun is right. About thousand years old art gallery hides the massive black boulders of Bhimbetka. These rock shelters were discovered and revealed in 1957 by V.S. Wakankar.
