The Indian conglomerate - Religare Group inaugurated Air Mantra in 2011, in order to introduce full-fledged airline service to North India. The name Air Mantra is derived from the word that means the practice of mystical invocation.

The initial growth saw the acquisition of ATR 72 and Bombardier Q400 aircraft, which seated 12 passengers and three crew members.

The revenue flights were introduced on 23 July 2012. Initially, only two flights were operated between Amritsar and Chandigarh using a fleet of 2 Beechcraft - 1900 D aircraft. Later after eight months, Air Mantra was liquidated.

• New Delhi - New Delhi Airport

The regional airline offered a one-way ticket from Chandigarh to Amritsar at 4,850 rupees ($88) on an inaugural day for a 50-minute journey.

Religare’s strategy was to target regional routes where existing carriers did not operate.
