Sulthan Bathery, formerly known as Ganapativatom, is the largest town in Wayanad. It is famous for its tourism and commercial activities. The city got its name after Tipu Sultan of Mysore occupied it and used it to store heavy ammunition during the 18th century. It is known for its rich history and ancient temples.
Since Sultan Bathery is located at an altitude of 1000m above sea level, it enjoys a temperate climate all year long. Its green cover makes it an ideal place for a family vacation.
Imagine waking up to majestic hills playing peek-a-boo with valleys, cliffs and plains. The primary tourist attractions here are the prehistoric caves, jungle trails, beautiful streams and rivers and lush greens of the hills. Stopovers such as the Edakkal Caves, Chethalayam Falls, the Jain Temple, Muthanga Wildlife Sanctuary, Ambalavayal Heritage Museum and St. Mary's and Yakoob Church make Sultan Bathery an excellent choice for every kind of traveller.
